EFCC Freezes N8.6billion Linked to Close Friend of Patience Jonathan

The leading anti-graft agency in Nigeria has frozen the accounts of a close friend of the popular ex First Lady, Patience Jonathan over suspicions of fraud.  Patience Jonathan and Bola Shagaya The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has frozen over N8, 627,458,773.36 billion in three accounts of Hajiya Muinat Bola Shagaya, an associate and friend of a former First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan.   Shagaya’s relationship with about 10 firms/account names are also being investigated by the anti-graft agency, The Nation learnt yesterday.   But Shagaya, who did not hold any public appointment during the administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has dragged Unity Bank to the High Court of Lagos State for allowing the EFCC to Post No Debit (PND) on her accounts without a valid court order. She says the action taken on her accounts violates Section34 (1) of the EFCC Act, 2004.

The unnamed woman was caught yesterday and had her body painted with white powder by Pick N' pay staff to punish her.   According to eye witnesses the said woman was caught lifting bathing soaps before being punished publicly.

Private Schools in Rwanda Close Down as Public Schools Develop

The commitment of the government to the development of formal education in Rwanda has made public schools very attractive to the disadvantage of their private counterparts.  Private schools in Rwanda are on the verge of closing down due to low patronage. A report by Daily Nation says desperate proprietors who face closure of their institutions are now asking the government to sponsor students in private schools at public rates.   But the government has rejected the idea. The “problem” started with the government’s twelve-year basic education policy which made public schools affordable and preferable.   According to the report, the Ministry of Education invested hugely in expanding capacity and teaching infrastructure at public schools across the country; introduced the school feeding programme and abolished school fees.

A pretty female undergraduate student has gone missing in Abuja after she reportedly went out with friends.  Alarm has been raised over the sudden disappearance of Jessica Kalu Ndukwe who left with her friends only to go missing in Abuja.   According to her sister who shared the sad news, Jessica was last seen in company of her friend known as Maya as they left their school premises (University of Abuja). Her mom has reportedly landed in a hospital due to the sad news of her missing daughter.   Anyone who has any information about her whereabouts should contact the appropriate authorities.

Some soldiers and members of the Nigeria Police have clashed with members of the Indigenous People of Biafra,leaving one person dead.  The IPOB member reportedly shot dead today A member of the Indigenous People of Biafra was feared dead on Wednesday in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State after the group clashed with police and soldiers.   According to a report by Punch, the fracas was instigated by a planned visit of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, to the area in furtherance of his anti-election campaign in the state.

One of the influential voices in the Niger Delta region in Nigeria has appealed to militants to desist from their proposed secessionist cause.  Edwin Clark Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Chief Edwin Kaigbodo Clark has appealed to the Niger Delta militants to withdraw from declaring 'Niger Delta republic' on October 1st.   Clark, in a recent interview, urged the militants to also desist from blowing up pipeline installations in the region. He said that PANDEF was satisfied with the Federal government, adding that it meant well for the region.
