According to Nigeria's Ministry of Finance, a new tax amnesty by the federal government will run for the next nine months to broaden the country's tax base.  President Buhari The President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government on Thursday, launched its Voluntary Asset and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) to broaden the country’s tax base and offer incentives for tax evaders.   According to a report by TheCable, the Ministry of Finance revealed that the tax amnesty will run for the next nine months, effective from July 1, 2017.   From July 1 to December 31, 2017, the government is offering  “waiver of interest and penalty, no prosecution of tax offences and no tax audit”  to all tax evaders who declare their  “hidden assets”.   From January 1 to March 31, there will only be  “waiver of penalty, no prosecution of tax offences and no tax audit”.   The ministry of finance said via a statement that;  “We are doing two things today: we are sending a clear si

A school pupil in a Lagos community has shocked many people with his criminal act after he was found out to have put acid in his classmate's bottle.  File photo: A classroom A 12-year-old boy who is a Junior Secondary School pupil I of the Lekki British International School, Lekki, Lagos, has been expelled for allegedly putting sulphuric acid and ethanol in the water bottle of his classmate.   According to Punch Metro, the young boy was envious of the 11-year-old female classmate, who had beaten him to the first position in the first and second terms.   The incident happened around 1.30pm on Wednesday, June 14.   The school was planning for the third term exam when the 12-year-old allegedly sneaked into the school’s laboratory and stole the acid and ethanol.   He was said to have mixed the chemicals and poured them into the 11-year-old’s water bottle.   Two pupils of the school reportedly caught him in the act and reported to the school management.
